Yoga Asanas Practice Rules | Essential 32 Rules For Yogasan in English

ESSENTIAL 32 RULES FOR YOGASAN:
Follow these rules to yogasan -
Rule (1). The body should be neat and clean during yogasan. There should be no pain or tiredness in the body at this time. If you have any such problem, yogasan should not be done but yogasans, which are especially used to cure diseases, can be done.

Rule (2). You should become free from evacuation of stool before yogasan. Teeth should be cleaned and take bath before doing any mudra. You can take bath after performing mudra too, but the body should be clean completely before doing mudra.

Rule (3). Yogasana can be done any time from sun rising to sunset but the time of yogasana should be one daily. If you practice yoga in the morning, you should practice yogasana in the morning daily.  It is good. If yogasana is done in the morning, it is good for the body.

Rule (4). You should practice yoga at least two hours before of taking meal or after four hour of taking meal. If the stomach is empty at this time, it is rather better.

Rule (5). Yogasana should be done once in 24 hours. Its minimum period should be 15 minutes whereas the maximum time should be one hour. If you want to practice yogasana for an hour, you should do it in two times of 30-30 minutes. One should take rest for 30 minutes after 30 minutes of yoga practice.

Rule (6). The person should not take heavy, indigestible and oily foodstuff if he does the practice of yogasan. He should not use spices in meals. If he takes green vegetables, lettuce (salad), milk and butter (which are digestible and nutritive), they are useful for the body. The meal should be taken less than appetite.

Rule (7). Taking no tea and coffee in the period of yogasan is very beneficial. If you cannot live without tea or coffee, you can take only 2 cups of tea or coffee in a day. 

Rule (8). When you feel excessive hunger in the period of yogasan, meals should be taken. If a person has been suffering from constipation, he should drink 2-3 glasses of lukewarm water with some salt and walk. After walking sometime, he should go for evacuation by doing pawan-muktasan, tadasan and bhujangasan, which help in breaking the constipation. The patient gets big relief in constipation after doing these asana. The meals should not be taken until the constipation breaks completely. If you feel hunger, take fruits juice or milk. Don’t take purgative medicine to break constipation too.

Rule (9). Meal should be taken slowly-slowly by chewing properly because the meal is digested easily by doing so. Food should not be taken hurriedly because it is harmful. If you take meal with a little salt, it is very good.

Rule (10). The person should take rest to one fourth time than the period of yoga asana after the yogasan. For example, if you do asana of yoga for 30 minutes, take rest for minimum 8 minutes. Thus, rest of 15 minutes should be taken after one hour of yoga practice.  

Rule (11). One should remain far fear, anger, mystification, jealousy, ego and sentiment of revenge at the time of doing yoga asana. In addition to, there should be no pressure on the brain. Yogasan should not be done if you are not interested in it or can change the asana. The activity of yoga, which is done with calm mind, is very useful for the health.

Rule (12). One should not take onion, garlic, oily foodstuff, kidney bean, red chilly, spicy foodstuff or these things should be taken in minimum quantity during yoga asana. Taking coconut kernels or any type of kernel is harmful, but cashew nut, almond, walnut and edible pine (chilgoja) and other dry fruits can be taken.

Rule (13). Any type of intoxicating substances should not be taken after and before 2 hours of yogasan. Don’t take wine, Indian hemp, intoxicating hemp, opium, drug and tobacco because these things are very harmful.

Rule (14). Drinking a glass of fresh or cold water before an hour of yogasan helps in evacuation of stool clearly.

Rule (15). If you have been suffering from any disease and you are doing such type of yoga, which helps in the treatment of diseases, you should take that foodstuff in meals as doctor suggests. Generally, milk and fruits are useful in all type of diseases, but taking them in many cases may be harmful.

Rule (16). You should sleep till 10 o clock at night and get up early in the morning (before sunrise) because it is very useful for the health. All types of problems should be removed from the mind before sleeping to get sound sleep. If a person does not get good sleep, he remains tiredness for whole day and there is a bad effect of it on the brain and the body.

Rule (17). One feels excessive hunger after the practice of yogasan daily and he start to sleep soundly too, but it is only for beginning condition. Wash face, hand to the elbows and feet to the knees for getting sound sleep.

Rule (18). The person should take bath with cold water daily in the morning. He should bath twice or thrice a day in summer season and once a day in winter season. If one is not able in taking bath with cold water, he can use lukewarm water, but head should be washed with cold water all the time.  

Rule (19). The body should be mopped with clean towel properly after taking bath. Mopping body with towel opens hair pores of the body and because of this reason there is no problem in entering fresh air in the body and exhaling polluted from the body.

Rule (20). Breath should be inhaled through nose all the time. Inhaling and exhaling breath through mouth is not good. Always take deep breath. Don’t take breath quickly. Natural breath is taken by the stomach not by the chest.

Rule (21). The person should wear neat and loose clothes according to weather all the time. Clothes, which are used for covering, spreading should neat and clean.
Do not go out in cold air just after yogasan. The fast air should not come on that place where you are doing practice of yoga. In the same way, the person should not take bath just after yogasan.

Rule (22). Cover your chest at the time of doing yogasan in winter season. If cold air enters in the chest, several types of diseases can take your body in their grip.

Rule (23). Go for urination just after yoga asana. The urine gathered in the body comes out from the body.

Rule (24). If the person has been suffering from itching or swelling of the intestines or gastritis problem in the stomach, he should not do shirshasan. Do those asana which have been called beneficial for the treatment of the disease. If there is no disease, any asana can be done by you.

Rule (25). In the beginning, one feels problems in doing any asana and folding hands, feet and other body organs is very difficult but all the problems disappear within some days slowly by doing asana and all the body pars are able in folding. In the beginning of yogasan, any asana should be done according to the capacity. Thereafter, its time should be increased slowly.

Rule (26). First, the person should do yogasan then pranayama and after that meditation. This series is very useful, but if a person wants to do 1-2 activities, he can do choose asana according to his desire. Doing only yogasan or only pranayama or only meditation is useful, but if yogasan and pranayama or yogasan and meditation are done altogether, it is useful. Doing these three activities at one time one after another is very beneficial.

Rule (27). Yogasan should be done for 30 minutes, pranayama for 10 minutes and mediation for 10 minutes and there should be a gap of 10 minutes between these asanas and 10 minutes’ rest should be taken in the last after posture. If a person gives 80 minutes to these asanas regularly, it provides complete benefit.

Rule (28). Meal should be taken slowly by chewing well because there is no problem in the digestion of meal if it is taken by chewing properly. Food should not be taken hurriedly because it is harmful. If you take meal with a little salt, it is very beneficial.

Rule (29). Don’t suppress the velocity of stool, urine and sneeze. If one feels anything (sneeze, urine or stool) at the time of yogasan, you should become free from it soon and after that start yogasan again.

Rule (30). Massaging the body with oil at least once in a week is very beneficial.

Rule (31). Sitting with nude body in sunlight at noon in cold season and at the time of sunrise in the morning in summer season is beneficial. Several types of diseases disappear from the body by taking sunlight in this way themselves and blood becomes pure. Activeness and agility come in the body by it.

Rule (32). Walking in fresh air twice a day keeps the body healthy and fit.
