Shirsha Asana: Technique Steps, Health Benefits & Precaution in English

SHIRSHA ASANA:
Shirshaasana has been considered the most important asana in yoga asanas. This asana is also known by many names as-Vipritakarani, Kapala Asana and Vruksha Asana. This asana is very useful and famous. All the qualities of curing disease are present in only Shirsha Asana as 84 lakhs asana have. Therefore, it is known by the name of Shirshasana. This asana has been considered very important comparison to other asanas. The practice of this asana in right technique is very beneficial, but if someone does the practice of this asana in wrong technique, he can face many problems.
Spread a mat or bed sheet on the floor and sit upon it. Put any thick bed sheet under the head and do the practice of this asana. Sit on the knees for the practice of this asana.

Technique:
Spread a mat or bed sheet on the floor and sit upon it. Put any thick bed sheet under the head and do the practice of this asana. Sit on the knees for the practice of this asana. Now interlock your fingers altogether and put the palms on the thick bed sheet (keep the palm face up). The portion from palm to elbow should remain in the contact of floor while putting the palms on the bed sheet. Now bend the body forward slowly and put your head on palms and make the balance of the head. Now join both the legs and bend them from the knees and straighten to the calves upwards and make the balance of the body by keeping the weight of the body on the head. The portion from head to waist should be kept straight in this position. Do this activity for many days in the beginning. When you get success in it, try to straighten the thighs slowly and keep the body balance on the head. Do this activity for many days by making the thighs straight. When you get success in this position, keep a distance of one foot between the legs and keep the legs straight. Do the activity of this asana for many days and make the balance of the whole body on the head. After this position of asana, join both the legs and straighten the whole body with legs and make the balance. Shirsha Asana should be completed with the practice of this asana with many parts and don’t show haste in the practice of this asana. Stay in shirsha asana position for 10-20 seconds in the beginning and increase this time slowly till 15-20 minutes. You can do the practice of this asana for an hour after getting success in it completely. The body should be brought on the floor slowly after completing the practice of this asana. Thereafter, stand straight and release the body loose and start breathing. This activity supplies blood all over the body directly. The practice of Pranayam after this asana provides much benefit of Shirshaasana. The person should concentrate on the breathing process while doing the practice of this asana. Breathing activity (inhaling and exhaling) should be kept normal. Keep the mind calm and remove the restlessness from the mind and try to keep the body straight.

Precaution:
The practice of this asana should be done in the supervision of a yoga guru otherwise this asana can be harmful comparison to benefit. Do the practice of this asana for sometime in the beginning because poisonous substances can reach in the brain by flowing with the blood circulation and it will be very harmful for the brain. The practice of yoga asana before the Shirsha Asana purifies the blood because of which bed effect of shirshana does not affect and the body gets complete benefits. This asana should not be done during the period of menstrual excretion and pregnancy. The person, who have been suffering from high or low blood pressure, should not do the practice of this asana. Don’t do the practice of this asana in the case of otorrhoea and any types of wound. The person, who has been suffering from heart weakness, chronic catarrh and constipation, should not do the practice of this asana. Do not do the practice of this asana after eating heavy meals. Don’t take bath for one hour after the practice and the person should not go outside in open air just after the practice of this asana.

Benefits:
The practice of this asana makes the blood circulation normal and all body parts active. This asana is helpful in increasing blood circulation. It ends mental depression and cures headache and asthma (breathing problems). This asana makes the nervous system, blood circulation, digestion system, reproductive organs and lungs strong and increases their working capacity. This asana increases energy, zeal and self confidence in the body. It increases memory power and develops the brain. This asana provides strength to the stomach, brain and body because of which one gets help in following the rules of celibacy. Diabetes, diabetes mellitus, spermtorrhoea, insanity, hysteria, sperm deficiency, nightfall, insomnia, indigestion, constipation and all disorders of the stomach are cured by the practice of this asana. It brings the stool clearly and makes the stomach well. This asana prevents baldhead and white hair, and makes white hair black. It checks the face wrinkles and young age remains present for long time. This asana is useful in increasing eyesight and makes the body active and shiny. It makes the mind calm and stable. The practice of this asana removes dirty thought and the mind merges in the meditation and accomplishment.
This asana is helpful to cure all types of uterus disorders. It is very useful asana for the treatment of sterility. Hysteria is cured by doing the practice of this asana.
